Only three days after Rain Bowl, in which many members of Cuddle Closet made it all the way to the championship, they found themselves in exactly the same position. One game away from being crowned champions, they were not going to let it slip through the crack this time!
Cuddle Closet took on Egg Salad Sandwiches in an epic shoot out that went down to the very last second. In a game that saw very few stops both teams relied on their explosive offense. Both quarterbacks easily threw for more than 500 yards, that might be a bit of an exaggeration, but probably not.
Egg Salad Sandwiches mounted a final offensive drive that saw a 4th down conversion of 20 yards, a touchdown with 18 seconds left, and a 2 point conversion that gave them a 1 point lead. All that though proved not enough against Cuddle Closet.
After losing in the Rain Bowl championship by a mere 2 points, they were not going to be denied this victory.
There were 4 seconds left when Dante called hike and threw a 25 yard strike to the endzone. The ball was knocked around by multiple players until it finally came to rest on a fallen players leg. Chris F. for Cuddle Closet saved it from rolling to the ground and by doing so won the game for his team!
Congratulations to the entire Cuddle Closet team for pulling out the win and taking home the championship!
Happy new year everyone! It was a great night for the first flag football of the new year. Everyone's gym resolution appears to be paying off already!
Albert, Captain of Cuddle Closet, started off the new year with quite a bang in this first game. He may have forgotten the name of his team (hint- it is not Show Us Your TD's anymore), but he did know which way to run after hauling in an interception.
Albert turned on the burners and danced his way along the sideline for the first pick six of 2016. He picked up another touchdown as well to cement the win for his team. If he hadn't recovered from the new year yet, he definitely has now!
Troy and the rest of Cuddle Closet took the field against Caught With Your Punts Down in some sweeeeet looking new shirts. These two teams put on quite a show for the 5 fans sitting in the stands last night. It was a back and forth offensive battle with each team throwing multiple bombs downfield for touchdowns.
Troy was able to create separation from the defense on almost every play to catch a few of those big passes. A late touchdown at the end of the first half provided a big momentum swing heading into halftime. Troy really shined though at the end of the game when Caught With Your Punts Down was putting serious pressure on Dante at quarterback.
Troy got a short pass from Dante and was looking to kill time off the clock so he cuddled the ball and just ran! As the defense closed in he lateraled (albeit forward and to the opposite team) to prevent the flag pull, successfully killing enough time. His team went wild in celebration for his ingenuity and unorthodox play. He took the good-natured ribbing while being unanimously declared player of the game and subsequently player of the week!
