First Place

Summer Co-ed Softball at Irving Park Sundays

The championship game on Sunday afternoon featured two juggernauts on the Underdog softball circuit. Standing in one corner was Skull Crushers, a team stacked with talent and power both at the plate and in the field. Their knack for crushing pitches to deep left field throughout the season was rumored to be the reason for this weekend’s games being moved from field #1 to field #2. In the other corner stood Sons of Pitches, a seasoned veteran team accustomed to making deep runs in the playoffs. A #1 vs a #2 seed...two teams who earned the right to play for the coveted summer league championship wristbands.
Runs were at a premium early on in the game...both pitchers were painting corners and stellar defense was found on both sides. Trailing 7-8 entering the top of the 6th inning, the bats of Sons of Pitches woke up at just the right time with a hit parade from both the guys and the ladies, leading to an impressive 10 run inning and commanding 17-8 lead. A final push by Skull Crushers in the bottom of the 7th fell short, as the team in red pulled off a final 17-11 championship victory.
Congrats to Sons of Pitches...an impressive win for a team destined to be in the Underdog softball hall of fame!
