Random Sets blew away the competition in the Thursday Midcore division championship at St. Charles. They started off by engaging in a fierce battle in the semis versus Sets on Sets on Sets. Random Sets took charge and delivered the punch in the first set, but Sets on Sets bounced back and took the second. Random Sets quickly recovered to win the third, then took a break during the next game to see who they would face in the finals - How I Set Your Mother or Block Party. Block Party stepped up in a big way and locked in their position in the finals. The rested Random Sets crew composed of Michaela, Jolene, Rafael, Josh,Travis and Taylor had plenty of energy left to take the championship in two straight sets. Their setting, defense, blocking and kills were perfection and resulted in the title of CHAMPS!
Random Sets left nothing on the floor during Thursday Midcore semis and championship games. And Michaela McNairy made sure of that. Random Sets were ready for victory with Michaela getting the job done on all sides of the court. From fabulous leaping service to rock solid blocks on defense, she was exceptional in every way. Her leadership is empowering and her squad delivered with precision setting and pounding kills first against Sets on Sets on Sets in the semis and again versus Block Party in the finals. And Michaela was the force that brought it all together. Congrats to her and Random Sets on taking the USL Thursday Midcore crown at St. Charles!
.....and gets an arm swing and a knee down. She is a fearless flyer when she sets her mind on winning and that's the key to Taylor Asch's incredible performance on Thursday night at St. Charles. Playing an intense match vs. All About That Ace, the Random Sets were lead by Taylor's competitiveness and seemingly endless energy. Her impossible saves and catch-all ups made for intense volleys and points. The Random Sets prevailed in the first game and dropped the second but roared back to a 25-16 victory in the third behind Taylor's crashing the net on defense and excellent back row work.
Jolene Byford is the perfect teammate to have because she always has your back when the competition turns intense. She is a steady presence on the court and this trait was on full display on Thursday night at St. Charles in a great match vs. Sets on the Beach. With only four players, Jolene's team, Random Sets, made a huge statement in winning the first set decidedly. Sets on the Beach had enough of that, so ramped up their game to make the second set a close one. No problem for Jolene who dazzled us with some incredibly difficult plays to keep the volleys alive and the points coming for the Random Sets. After dropping the second set, Jolene led the charge at the service line and on defense to bring the third set victory home. So when you need to have a solid player to back you up, Jolene is the one!
