One part Bryce Harper-home-run-prodigy and one part A.I./Kobe Arm Sleeve chiller--this dude hits moon shots. Blessed with a smooth swing, the only uncertainty with a Justin Smith at bat is how far the ball will travel (if the pitcher throws to him). Smith had 2 HR that disappeared into late afternoon orbit before falling softly some 30 yards behind the outfielder. He had another foul ball that disappeared into NE suburbia beyond the left field fence. His hitting display was such that an opposing player was moved to comment on his hitting prowess, and even the umpire was disappointed that he was intentionally walked in his subsequent at bat. Well played Justin.
Brian Dooley and the rest of the Ichiros team played the best softball they ever have. Dooley pitched the Ichiros to their first two victories as a team. While on the mound Dooley not only held to very hard hitting teams to minimal runs but, showed some fine leather making many nice plays.
At the plate Dooley was constantly driving in teammates who were consistently reaching base in front of him. This combination proved to be a successful one.
The Ichiro's are very good at having fun. If they keep playing like they did on Sunday they will have to get good at being good and having fun.
