Picture this: An out-numbered Indy team, playing with someone they've only met once before, up against one of the strongest teams in the Midcore division, and that is the match-up you have for Thursdays night Finals.
I'm sure the Screamin' MeMe's must have been a little unraveled when they found out they were going to be three players short for the Finals. But they were not going to let being outnumbered stop them from pulling out the win on Thursdays nights game. They did some quick recruitment, and came to the courts ready to play (some even came an hour early to warm up).
The first game they won 25-20 against the Bad News Beers, a team who has some strong hitters and, and whose communication skills on the court is to be envied. However, Bad News Beers refused to go down without a fight and won the next game 9-25. It all came down to the third game, and in the end, it was The Screamin' Meme's strong serving, ability to play amazing defense, and their careful placement of the ball that won over Bad News Beers' juggernaut hitters. This was some of the most intense net play I've ever seen, and some record long rallies. Both teams showed a heck of a lot of talent and heart, but at the end of the day these two teams showed great sportsmanship, and there was not a sore loser in sight.
Great job Screamin' MeMe's! You really were the underdog Thursday night, but you came out with the big W. A well deserved win for a great team.
This weeks player of the week goes to Jennee Edwards of The Screamin' MeMe's. Jennee helped her team to victory this week by showing some true determination on the court by going after every ball, no matter what obstacle was in her way. (I'm looking at you, pole.) You can better believe that nothing is going to stop this girl from tasting sweet victory. So next time you think about getting in her way, just remember Jennee Edwards does not give a care. She just gets right on up and keeps playing, like a true champ. Keep up the great work Jennee, and congratulations on being this weeks player of the week!
Knee pads.....check.
Volleyball......check.
Great attitude.......double check.
JD Paris came out to the Eastmoreland Courts with one thing on his mind....to have a good time. He brought his knee pads and his positive vibrations with him to the courts and it radiated to his teammates.
Despite their loss in the 1st game of the evening, JD carried his team with smiles and high fives during their match. After their match, JD stuck around and subbed in for another team needing additional players and the good times carried over to that game.
JD played with a passion for the game but most of all he played to have fun like a true Under-dogger and for that JD Paris gets the Player of the Week Award. Congratulations!
