Sandy Bottom cruised to victory on Wednesday night at the SEPDX sand VB finals against Take A Hit. Jack, Chris, Katie and Faye took charge against a scrappy and talented opponent in Take A Hit and powered to 21-16 and 21-15 wins in the first and second sets. With some incredible setting and service by the gals, the guys of Sandy Bottom spiked their way to rack up the kills and the points. We can always count on some crazy antics by Jack and tonight was no exception as his humor kept us laughing despite the heat. Congrats to our first and second place winners in the Softcore division - Sandy Bottom and Take A Hit!
"Happy Birthday to you...Happy Birthday to you...Happy Birthday dear Chris Hicks....etc., but that's not why Chris of Sandy Bottom is receiving this week's USL POTW, it's because his play was OUTSTANDING!!! With the birthday energy flowing, Chris came up with fearless attacks at net, leaping high into the air with accurate killing and some just inches from the line. His uncanny ability to be exactly where needed brought power and victory in Sandy Bottom's two wins vs. Sandfish. Did we also mention he's a top-notch teammate when it comes to setting? Oh yeah, servin' up the assists like he's a waiter. So hope you got your birthday celebration off to a great start with your fantastic play, Chris, and thanks for spending it with us at SEPDX!
You can always count on the boundless energy of Jack Kuo to get the party started! He came to Opening Night of SEPDX sand volleyball prepared to provide pizzazz and spark to not only his teammates on Sandy Bottom, but everyone within a mile of the courts. The sand and summer night must have brought his game to new levels as he performed some serious body-sacrificing and maneuvers that would make a contortionist blush. Jack led Sandy Bottom to a three game sweep of Spike Club and still had energy left over to hang out afterwards for some friendly scrimmage games with anyone who would take him on. Thank you, Jack, for launching Opening Night with a bang - can't wait to see what else you have in store for us the rest of summer!
