John Ciepiela
Balls and Dolls
Player of the Week goes to John C. from Balls and Dolls! When he wasn't diving and saving balls or getting kills, he was cheering on, not only his own team, but the opposing team as well. He showed great sportsmanship no matter who scored the point. Great job John and the rest of Balls and Dolls!

Blundercats
Tonight it was Wacky Wednesday for Sarah and her awesome miss matched socks. She is all about the fun with her team and also a great sportsman. I definitely think the two different wacky socks helped her team to a victory and kept the fun on there side turned all the way up! Great job bringing the fun Sarah and keep it up!

Steven Novak Taps His Way to Victory for Notorious B.U.R.T
We've seen various volleyball attributes from USL players over time, but Wednesday night at Tubman Softcore Division brought back an old tactic that worked exceedingly well for Steven Novak and Notorious B.U.R.T (NB). With Steven at net for much of the game, he set his fingers in motion with the lightest of touch to continue tip after tip much to the frustration of Balls and Dolls, because no matter where they were positioned, Steven managed to place the ball just out of reach. NB dropped the first set to B&D, but Steven warmed up his digits and went to work on securing a tough win 27-25 in the second set and ultimately taking the match in the third. Steven brings an arsenal of skills each week, so you never know which trick he'll bring out of the bag!

Mark Abel Soars to New Heights as MIP
Mark Abel Soars to New Heights as MIP
Notorious B.U.R.T.
There definitely was a difference in Mark Abel's performance and ability on Wednesday night at Tubman in the Softcore division. We've been watching Mark play over the course of time and each night he shows that his study of the game of volleyball has proved advantageous for him and his team. Notorious B.U.R.T. vs. Straight Shots was a match for the season! With Mark's strong play at net, he kept NB's defensive strategy at the forefront as he racked up block after block. He wowed us with uncanny kills to the sweet spots and his service has improved to the point where the power and speed make it so difficult to defend. The competition between these two teams is fun to watch with close scores in the first and second sets, 26-24. NB let up a bit in the third, dropping the set to SS 25-11, but Mark's pace continued throughout. Save for a minor injury to his foot in the parking lot (how the heck did that nail get in your foot????), Mark remains sure-footed on the VB court!

Tim Taylor
Tim Taylor
Tim Taylor Takes A Toll
....on his opponents as they just have no answer for his relentless pelting of kills and blocks! Tim led Balls and Dolls in hot pursuit of a match win vs. Straight Shots on Wednesday night at Tubman. Tim's smile never leaves his face, and while you might think that means he's a nice guy (which of course he is!), the smile also masks a killer instinct on the floor. His net play was outstanding, along with some masterful back row assists and dives to save volleys. Tim's such a solid player that he has the added ability of throwing in spectacular moves and skills not often seen, which really helped B&D in their close win in the first set, 25-23. Nice work Tim!

Triffid Abel
Triffid Abel
Notorious B.U.R.T.
Knowing that her team Notorious BURT were in 1st place and the highest seed in the Wednesday Softcore League at Tubman, Triffid Abel absolutely did not feel the pressure, and turned in a stellar performance in securing the team's spot in next week's championships. With only 4 players, Triffid led the attack on Blundercats with meticulous service and over-the-top dives. Notorious BURT played in perfect sync throughout the match given their short numbers while calling out each assist, volley and kill. Triffid's service gained speed and power throughout the match with aces coming at opportune times. So powerful these four players, that they took the match in only two games. So looking forward to a fierce championship game in the finals next week with Notorious BURT defending their #1 seed vs.....well, we'll wait and see!

Steven Novak
Steven Novak
Notorious B.U.R.T.
After sitting out last week with the flu (on his birthday no less), Steven Novak came back just in the nick of time to join his teammates on Notorious B.U.R.T. (NB) in the championship game of the Wednesday Softcore League at Tubman. Steven may be another year older, but we gotta say that age and a bout of the flu didn't impact his performance. Along with NB teammates Triffid, Mark, Amanda and Pierre, Steven took charge of the battle from start to finish vs. Straight Shots. His spiking was unmatched, particularly in the first game and his floor coverage with amazing dives really stood out. Steven has been a faithful USL player over the past couple of years and no matter where he plays or on which team, his game remains powerful and consistent! Congrats to Steven and NB for their Wednesday Softcore Championship!
