STOP FORREST!
Veronica Hernandez isn't a follower. She blazes her own trail. In Wednesday night's game vs Can O' Corn, Veronica got on first. Then, on the next hit, she started running as fast as she could... right down the right field line toward the right field foul pole! The wrong way? Maybe... but she hustled... which we, at Underdog, appreciate. Of course, both teams had a great sense of humor about it and it made for a great, light-hearted moment. Congratulations Veronica... your outside the box base running has earned you Week 1's Player of the Week!

Billy Wood
Billy Wood
Old Dirty Ballers
This guy is the definition of Underdog Softball! Billy is a stand up guy and truly plays the game for fun and plays a fair game. He did very well in his pitching debut for the season pitching a complete game and also smacking some huge hits for an all around awesome game! Keep up the great work Billy and good luck to your team throughout the season!

Dwight Nelson
Dwight Nelson
Silver Fox Sighting at Westmoreland Park
Dwight "silver fox" Nelson didn't come to mess around Thursday night. Fresh off a stint with AA club Deluth Wildcats, Dwight clearly still has what it takes to get back to the bigs. On the defensive side, Dwight was all over the infield, completing two 6-3 double plays in two consecutive innings! And on the offensive side, Dwight was a perfect 1.000, scattering balls all over the outfield for doubles, and keeping the Chupacabras honest with some excellent heads up base running.

Dae Ho Kim
Dae Ho Kim
Day Donkeys
WHAT A NIGHT! Dae Ho was amazing form the pitching rubber throwing a great game and keeping the Old Dirty Ballers in check for the ,most part of the game. Dae Ho truly knows what Underdog Softball is all about, a true sportsman, even giving up his pitching spot at the end of the game to another player. In the middle of the game he had one of the most acrobatic catching at the pitching mound that total prevented a ball from going deep in the outfield and had a great night batting as well. Keep up the good work and good luck the rest of the season!

Maria Mitchell
Maria Mitchell
Maria Lends a Helping Hand
During Milwaukie Lumber Company's victory over the Point West Players on Tuesday night at Westmoreland Park, I saw A LOT of great sportsmanship from a lot of people (not taking extra bases, allowing players of the opposing team to reach base, Harvey running for himself)... but none greater than Maria Mitchell's. Maria took the time, both during the game and afterwards, to help another Maria from Point West Players with tips on how to become a better hitter. It's sportsmanship like this that exemplifies the Underdog Sports spirit and is what our league is all about. Congratulations, Maria. You are Week 5's Player of the Week!

Webfoots have found a talisman
Webfoots have found a talisman
Ilana Maccia claims to have never played softball before... Everyone found that difficult to believe as the Webfoots' catcher dominated all over the field Thursday night. Even though Ilana muttered anxiously to herself before every at bat, she went 4-4 with 3 RBIs. Not to mention some great work behind the plate, recording a highlight-worthy diving catch for an out. With Ilana onboard, the Webfoots just might have what it takes to go the distance.

Erich Fleck
Erich Fleck
Captain's speech bolsters team
Erich had no problem highlighting the team's defensive opportunities in pre-game warm ups. During some catch with Player of the Game Ryan Hammond, Erich had an epiphany that his team was trying to go for broke when they should have just been making the easy out or hitting the cutoff. He relayed this to his team with a passionate pre-game speech, and the defense came through in a big way, holding the power-laden Meat Club to 16 runs.

Samuel Cheek
Samuel Cheek
Big Pink
Sam Cheek is a good sport. He wants to win... but only if it's a fair. In a game vs the Day Donkeys, the Day Donkeys pitcher was about to pitch the ball... when Sam noticed that the right center fielder was tying their shoe. He stopped the pitcher before the pitch to let him know that their fielder was incapacitated. It's this show of sportsmanship which exemplifies the Underdog spirit. Great job, Sam! You're the Week 4 Player of the Week.

Mike Jezewski
Mike Jezewski
Can O' Corn
It was a tough night on the mound for Captain Mike, walking the 1st three batters of the game. But Mike didn't allow his pitching difficulties get in the way of another Corn win. Mike settled in on the offensive side, scattering balls all over and almost achieving a cycle. The night was capped off by an amazing defensive play at home where he tagged out not 1, but 2 runners to end the game. Nice job Mike!

Tori Russo
Tori Russo
Portland Webfoots
Tori was a first basewoman on a mission Tuesday night, ensuring that no one was going to reach 1st base without a hard run and a hard fight. Throws 3 feet above her head? No problem. Balls in the dirt? Routine for Tori. In the 6th, Tori even stopped a ball with her face. All in a day's work. Cap it all off with an RBI double in the bottom of the 7th, and Tori is this week's Player of the Week!
