Summer Softcore Kickball at Irving Park Thursdays

Callie Newsome is a tough chic. On one of her kicks and runs to first base the opposing team's first baseman inadvertently ran into her fairly hard knocking both parties to the ground. Callie brushed herself right off, said she was okay, and stayed in the game. Later on she delivered a key kick during a Blood, Sweat, & Beers rally. It's this type of resiliency that really embodies the Underdog spirit. Congratulations on getting run over Callie. You're Week 1's Player of the Week!

Lauren played very well this week. Though it was a scrimmage game, that didn't stop her from trying her hardest to do her best. She came up to bat many times, and each time she kicked the ball really hard into the outfield, though many times it ended up being caught. She didn't let getting out the first couple times keep her down, however, and kept coming back up to the plate with a vigor and desire to get on base. By the end of the game this enthusiasm and effort had netted her a couple hits. Keep it up, Lauren!

Drew was picked as player of the week because of his immeasurable amount of energy and support that he brings to the field. Being around players such as Drew makes reffing the most enjoyable. He has high spirits and cheers on his team no matter how the game is going. Also his summer-salt kicking entrances and climbing on the fence was pretty awesome!
