Late Fall Midcore Volleyball at Harriet Tubman Thursdays

Explosive is the perfect word to describe Euclides Galvez of Block Party 'cause he just blows up on the volleyball court. There's no stopping his agility and determination to get each and every ball that comes his way and then some. Putting in extra effort on Thursday night at Tubman Midcore, Euclides provided the maleness among his squad of females to put up a tremendous fight vs. Sets on the Beach. Even though Block Party dropped all their sets, Euclides kept them close with only a few points to spare at the end of the game. He fought for every dig, assist and worked hard at the net on defense. His service impeccable, his energy in full force and his energy throughout makes Euclides our POTW!

If you combine great skills and team spirit, you get Amy Scheckla-Cox. We think Amy's got some cheerleading in her past because she got Scrappy Kilmore rocking and ready with some nifty hand clap/stomping rhythms which actually was so infectious that their opponent, Net Ninjas, got into the act. But aside from the downbeats, Amy set out to get Scrappy Kilmore's game going with great net work and defensive moves which kept the volleys going. She's also very adept at coaching and keeping the Kilmores in position and ready for attack by calling shots and offering lots of encouragement. While the team dropped the first two sets, their persistence paid off against great competition by the Ninjas and pulled off an exciting win 26-24 win in the third. Amy's enthusiasm and love of the game is contagious and makes her the perfect choice for POTW this week!

With only four players at Tubman Midcore on Thursday, League Night needed to cover extra court to compensate. No problem for Rachel Bailey. There wasn't much one volley or kill that was in any sort of range that she didn't defend. We lost count of every time she flew across the floor sliding on knees and reaching with arms and hands to make a play. Those acrobatics came with some eye-popping results as Rachel kept the ball in play in seemingly impossible returns and ups. Her service managed to float across net and land just beyond and line close. With injured Captain Robert coaching and cheering from the sidelines, Jeff, Chandra and the Tall Guy made sure Rachel had plenty of support to sweep Scrappy Kilmore in three straight games. Amazing work paid off thanks to Rachel's body-sacrificing tactics!
