A season of such grandeur has only been written of in ancient tales of lore among such mysterious happenings as the werewolf and the rise of American cheese in modern french cuisine. Nothing short of the most amazing series of Thursdays at Hollywood BTB ever seen! Well done, each and every one of you.
Heading into the championship night were four of our finest. Ebowla, Happy Hookers, Wishful Thinking, and That's What She Said. The first pairing saw Ebowla strip Wishful Thinking's dreams of BTB grandeur from them in a dazzling display of bowling excellence. Jared pounded those pins like an ocean to the beach. Just one powerful roll after another, knocking 'em down just as quickly as they were set up.
In the neighboring lanes, That's What She Said put up some great scores while Happy Hookers struggled to put up the closed frames they'd been keeping together all season. A big spread in the end put That's What She Said up on the board as a win, but the battle of the ages was still yet to come.
The spirit of Thursday BTB showed in a number of ways, but there were a few notables that pushed it over the edge. For "Choose Your Own Theme Night" we had Ballsacs ready to leave for Hawaii from the alley, decked out in their finest Hawaiian tourist wares. Beside them, Special Math Club brought on a new game to play with XXX every even frame! Wishful Thinking brought out quite a selection of wigs of which my favorite was "The Road Warrior Top Mullet in Green." Purple Rain brought a viking costume and a new game called "Loser Condiment Shots." Grossest game, ever.
Reading Between the Lanes deemed themselves dressed for "College Night" but more impressively, they drew up their own RBTL trading cards. Yes, I collected them all...
Now, Bowl Movement No. 2's costume was not the first of it's kind. Indeed, Happy Hookers pulled it off not two seasons ago with a great deal of success. Success being measured in how well you make your BTB supervisor feel uncomfortable. That said, BM#2 pulled it off just as well and even took it to the next level by bringing along their own homemade spirit coupons. They went around to the surrounding teams and got to see just how much of a good time it is to reward bowlers for "condiment shot nastiness."
And, yes. Yours truly, was made massively uncomfortable anywhere within 10 lanes of the BM#2 crew.
All that plus a full 6 weeks of dressing up, bringing faux rivalry fights to Ebowla, and a slew of other hilarious shinanigans! Bowl Movement #2 definitely deserved their champs coupons. Well done, sirs and ladies.
At this point, XXX was just starting their crazy No Tap rolling. Totaling a whopping 23 No Tap coupons at the end of the night, XXX took the No Tap Championship with room to spare.
Finally, the championship game rolled itself out and saw Ebowla unable to keep up with a still streaking That's What She Said. Though down by a good 70 pins going into his 10th frame, Brian of Ebowla pulled off one of the most amazing feats I've seen at BTB. Honestly. On the last three throws he called the outcome of his rolls on his walk back from the line. "Strike" and there was a strike. Everyone cheered, amazed. Next roll, "That one's a strike" and...STRIKE! Baffled faces and adamant clapping came in response.
On his final roll he turns around and says, "ooooh, that's gonna end up a split." The ball seems to roll forever before finally smacking straight on the head pin and, lo and behold, it's a friggin' split. The crowd goes absolutely crazy. Brian, that was amazing.
That's What She Said had just one response left. Unprovoked dance party on their lane! Big winners of Fall BTB Thursdays at Hollywood...
Hehe... That's what she said.
