Fall Midcore Co-ed Kickball at Unthank Park Sundays

Greg is this week's POTW for his great kicking and superb defense at the end of the game. Greg did it all today and his line drive kicking got Your Mom really fired up from the get go. At shortstop he was like a cat, getting to every ball that came his way. Greg made an outstretching snag to end the game and get his team the win. Great effort Greg!

On Sunday, Tyler Smith had no trouble making the transition from racing for the cure to racing around the bases. With his RFTC pinned to his back, he excited the crowd and inspired his Clockwork Orange teammates, scoring a run on a combination slide-crawl that proved to be the decisive play in a tightly fought 8-6 game against Orange-a-tang. He continued to hustle throughout the game, even rewarding his fans with a rare slide into first base. For his all-out effort, Tyler is our player of the week. Congrats!

In the final game of the day, umpire turned ad-man (and BarRoom Hero) Paul Crowder made his presence felt all over the field. As a hard-charging third basemen, he fielded countless bounts and generally intimidated the opposition. At the plate, he managed to shrug off the years of calling balls and strikes, and simply willed himself on base. In such a classic, low-scoring October kickball match-up, these are the things that separate Players of the Week from mere mortals. Congrats, Paul!

On Sunday, Huevos Grandes fought valiantly to make the playoffs, but came up short against the juggernaut that is the Dirty Birds. However, we would be remiss not to recognize the efforts of one Otto (he doesn't need a last name), who scored HG's only run of the game, hustling around the basepaths in his jeans like Patrick Swayze in the kickball movie he never made ... Otto also displayed impressive defensive range at first. For all this and more, he was an easy choice for Player of the Week. Congrats!

Melanie was put to the test as catcher on Sunday and definitely passed. She stood up numerous players and smashed their dreams of coming home. With her unbeatable at the plate, her team to earned their playoff victory.
