Monday nights playoff was very exciting from start to finish. Nunchuck Fury started the first round off very hot with a 4-1 win over Prestige Worldwide. Laura Harding led the way providing the clinching catch. Got Balls?, Ballz to the Wall, and Die Awesome also had stellar play to get them to the second round of the playoffs.
In the non-winners side of the bracket Clean Jerks and Rubbers heated up their play with back to back comeback wins. Shawna Sipp provided gritty play and focus, willing her team with accurate throws and fearless catches.
In the winners bracket their were two excellent semi-final matches. Nunchuck Fury continued their excellent run with a very late comeback victory. Ballz to the Wall began the game with some quick victories led by Chris Porter. Down 4 to 3 Nunchuck would not give in. David McCurry worked his magic during a 1 vs. 3 series where he caught one ball, and place two excellent side out shots to propel his team into the championship game.
On the other side of the bracket two veteran teams (Die Awesome with a Vengeance & Got Balls?) battled it out in a well played semi-final. Die Awesome out lasted Got Balls? by using excellent throw control and timely catches. Kayla Kuretich proved to be the difference maker in this game with her laser like throws connecting multiple times.
In the championship game we saw true excellence take place. Although Nunchuck Fury played very well Die Awesome proved to be too much playing close to mistake free Dodgeball. Mike Reed began the game throwing drop shots connecting with many feet, as well as making key catches. Excellent hands were very important with the short handed Die Awesome as they could only get to full strength with a catch being made. Die Awesome did not complain about having less players, they just stepped up and made plays to get their teammates in the game. Mo Davis was one of those players who seemed to make a highlight worthy catch in every game. Katie Osborn also used her "magic hands" throughout the game making difficult catches and using a side arm delivery that kept her opponents completely off balance. Kayla Kuretich also provided her steady play and JD Ramirez helped lift his teammates spirit with an infectious energy. This was certainly a demonstration of a team working together to accomplish their goal. Congrats!
