Pitch Slap hangs tough and has fun!
It was a long hot afternoon at Fernhill Park. It only makes sense that the last two games of the day should be packed full of some hot action.

Involved in both games was a hard-working and fun loving Pitch Slap team. This group of strangers has come together and produced a pretty good softball team.

They may have been on the short side of the scoreboard in both games but, they were long on fun. They scored nearly forty runs combined in both games and had some players make some great plays. They battled hard every inning and if a few bad bounces go their way they could have easily been 2-0 on the day.

A great effort by a team on the up and up.

Taking a commanding 12-1 lead into the bottom of the 4th, it appeared Teddy R's Big Sticks were well on their way to a solid victory during the second game of the day. Tom Souhlas, rookie starting pitcher Teddy R's Big Sticks, appeared to have everything in control...little did we know the wheels would begin to fall off for him in the 4th. Maybe it was his nerves, the pressure of moment, or perhaps the HOT sun beginning to bake the bone dry infield...it wasn't looking pretty for his team at this point. In steps Melvin Lathara, an unseasoned relief pitcher, full of confidence yet short of experience on the mound. A few warm up pitches is all Melvin needed to get into his groove and shut down the Flock of Softballs rally for the inning. Although they eventually lost the game in the bottom of the 7th, Melvin kept the game close with his outstanding pitching. Mariano Rivera and the Yankees would have been proud of the fine effort put forth by this born-to-be reliever!

A team effort!
The second game of a double header isn't easy especially after a loss in the first game. On Sunday at Fernhill Park, "Pitches and Throws" came to win with the help of their all star pitcher Amy and the big bat from Robert. With this duo and the rest of the team, "Pitches and Throws pulled out the victory to end the day on a high. Good job and congrats "Pitches and Throws" on not giving up and playing to win.

Tarah Ward
If you saw Tarah Ward at second base this week the only word that would come to mind is WOW! She was all over the place out there. Made plays on her feet, on her back, on her stomach, going backwards, coming forwards and just about every other which way. By the end of the day she was caked in dirt and had used EVERY part of her body to knock down balls that came her way. Piece that together with some commentary that stood out amidst similar such commentary from Pitches and Throws and Tarah Ward is the distinguished player of the week.

Jeff Bayer from Flock of Softballs is this weeks player of the game. Jeff came to the field with some great intensity this week and was ready to lead his team to victory. In the first game, Jeff pitched a complete game to lead his team to a win against Intoxicated. This was especially sweet considering the loss only one week ago. Jeff stayed fired up and kept his teams spirit up during championship game too.

Way to go Jeff!
