There always seems to be one of those "did that really just happen!" plays in an Underdog football season that leaves the players, refs and fans in awe of the flag football awesomeness that particular player displayed on the field. Chris Blumthal of Lava Sharks, a gentle giant whom most would assume by his stature made his home as an offensive lineman in high school, showcased his inner Odell Beckam Jr. stick 'em like hands and nifty footwork in their game against Cuddle Closet Redux. A pass that most thought would sail out of the endzone was snatched by Chris one-handed out of mid-air, secured to his body and held tight for a touchdown and he tumbled to the ground. Even though his team came up short on the scoreboard at the end of the game, both teams agreed this was one of those catches not seen too often on the hallowed ground of Griswold Stadium.
Amazing catch Chris and congrats on being Player of the Week!

The afternoon kicked off in fine fashion with a match-up between Tickle Fight Mafia and X-Factor, two new teams to Underdog this season both looking for a statement win on a sun-drenched field at Lewis & Clark. A slow start in the first half saw X-Factor trailing 22-7 at halftime, a lead felt by many to be too big to overcome in the 2nd half.
An inspirational pep talk by their team captain and some amazing orange slices at halftime brought them back to life for 20 solid minutes in the 2nd half. The pride factor and Belichick-like defensive adjustment was on display right away, led by Sara Atkinson shouting defensive schemes and inspiring the rest of her team to dig deep. Trailing 22-20 with less then five minutes remaining, Sara made the play of the game with a stellar interception and game clinching return for a touchdown. Mobbed by her team after the play, Sara's joy and excitement could be felt throughout the stadium.
Congrats Sara on being Underdog's Player of the Week!

Thrust into the position with their starting quarterback/manager out of town on business, Devan Barkley of team Top Golf seized the opportunity with open arms in both of their games at Lewis & Clark today. Devan's ability to extend plays with his scrambling skils, vision downfield and willingness to share the rock with all his teammates was just what they needed today against Safety Blitzed and Roustabouts, two venerable teams well known throughout the Underdog universe. Superman came through big time today, leading his team to two victories and great position in the standings as the playoffs fastly approach.
