A great Fall day for kickball! Winds carrying red rubber balls to the outfield, the fall leaves scattering the field, beers, warm-up routines, heckling, drama...
In the first of three games, #1 ranked Blue Steel kicks off against Dirty Birds. A close game throughout, but some great fielding by Shannon Swim and the rest of the DB crew held Blue Steel to 7 runs and eke out a win by two. All around, a great game. Both teams brought great spirit and competition to the field!
Game two brought a budding rivalry to Unthank. The Homewreckers vs. The Claw. The game went back and forth through the first seven with a 6-6 tie heading into extra innings. The Claw was able to put a run up on the board in the top of the eighth, but it was The Homewreckers pulling it together in the bottom for two more runs and the win.
The tension in the air rose with the winds. The Homewreckers and Dirty Birds mean mugging one another from across the field. Unthank was in a grip of silence only broken by the crunching of fall leaves underfoot. Then, game three began.
Both dugouts cheered and yelled as The Homewreckers took the field and the first pitch was rolled. The Dirty Birds took the first half of the inning to show The Homewreckers how offense is done, bringing in a 7 runs before taking the field. The Homewreckers tried to pull the game together, and managed to hold Dirty Birds to only 6 more runs through the rest of the game, but were unable to get their kicks past the impressive fielding Dirty Birds had brought to the championship. Dirty Birds finished their season with their first shutout, a win of 13-0. Congratulations Dirty Birds!
See you all next season!
Congratulations Dirty Birds for the great season and another great day of Kickball!
