Scott may have been the star on the court but Friends of the Devil brought their own superstar to their games on Wednesday night. Rich D. was our ball boy extraordinaire all night as we premiered our new courts. No nets meant balls were rolling a bit farther away than tired players wanted to run so Rich was happy to help as ball boy for night.
Throughout he night as Rich watched the talent on display he became enamored with one player... one stealthy fast, sharp shooter with a flair to his game and outfit. "Go orange socks!" Rich yelled from the sidelines as he watched Scott dribble past defenders. It was a touching seen as two men kindled what could only be explained as a small futsal roMANce.
Rich was promised a visit from his favorite star player after the game as payment for his work and he got it. We thank him for making it easier on us and the players by stepping in and doing the tough work of a ball boy, but it did come with a reward and it certainly was great to see that "orange socks" and "ball boy" bonded over futsal. We can only hope that we continue to see such great spirit of the game on and off the court. Thanks both of you guys for making the night fun and again Rich for making it a little easier for all of us.
With diving becoming an issue in the sport worldwide you may have looked at Annie Mcconnell on Wednesday night and accused her of going to ground too easily. She may have received jeers from fans (if we had any) and the next days Underdog Daily would have had her on the cover rolling around on the court labeled as a diver.
Don't be so quick to judge though. On what may have been her fifth time on the ground in the first half a concerned ref asked her is she was okay, unsure if her tactic was to be the next Christiano Ronaldo or if she was actually having issues staying upright. Annie, after getting to her feet and dusting herself off, replied with a smile on her face... don't worry, I just fall a lot!
And that she did, but it was okay. She was not a diver, she is just someone who happens to (we guess) have the balance of a baby fawn and we applaud her honesty. The game could use more honest players and we appreciate that we have someone like Annie in our league!
Not only that but she played her heart out all night and may have some bruises to show for it, and we all know it was not from dirty diving. Way to keep it clean Annie!
