There was no way that shot was saved. There was no way that Booty Traps did not just score on that shot. There is no way that Ms. Friz will ever believe she made that incredible save!
If we could have gotten a picture of this moment it would explain it all. And no, not a shot of the ball flying through the air goal bound, not the reflex save after it flew past two of her defenders, not the covering up of the ball that stopped a forward from tapping the ball into the net. All we would need to explain this moment would be Emily's face after the save.
The expression alone is exactly what Underdog is all about. Emily was the underdog. A self proclaimed goal scorer thrown into goal so she could get more playing time she did not expect to be the savior, the name in lights. But she was the deer in headlights after her save. It was a face of utter amazement. Possibly dazed and confused by her feat Emily just stared ahead of her as she sat on the ground with the ball. No one could believe it, but especially not her.
A few seconds later a Booty Trap forward came and gave her a hand up and a pat on the back and we saw that smile appear. But it was that look before that made the night great. Here is to Emily for doing what she believed she never would. A world class save, but better yet a look and reaction that put a huge smile on every players face. Forget the yelling and high fives you see from most goalkeepers after an incredible stop, we prefer the NO WAY look! Nice job Emily!
3-2-1....and the ball stops and doesn't roll anymore. Indy #2 better known as We'd Rather Be Drinking, goes on to celebrate in their 1st win of the season.
As the final whistle blew, team WRBD jumped for joy as a sigh of relief came over them when they won the game. This team is an individual team that has come together to form a bond over the great game of futsal.
Led by their fearless leader in Peter Villanueva by keeping up their spirits high. Rebecca Swor was the 1st player to get a yellow card and apologize to the ref.
When asked at the end of the night if they were having fun, Rachael Modrcin didn't wait for the question to finish as she quickly answered "YES" with enthusiasm! The team said it all with the smiles on their faces while trying to grab their breathe. One thing is for certain, team We'd Rather Be Drinking knows how to have fun even without a beer in their hand and for that we give them The Team of the Week Award. Congratulations!
