Danger Zone may have had a few weeks off but there was no rust to shake off this afternoon. They had to play two games today to crown themselves victors. The number one seed had their sights on the end zone every play and found it time and again. They did not let up in either game, scoring more than 120 points over the two games to prove that.
Danger Zone did not cruise to victory though in the championship game. Roustabouts matched score for score throughout the game. It was tied at halftime at 28 all after a last second score by Roustabouts to even it up. The two teams traded scores until Roustabouts took a one point lead with only 18 seconds left. Chris and the rest of Danger Zone only needed 8 seconds though to find the end zone. Chris patiently waited out the defense by dancing around the backfield until a small window opened up about 40 yards downfield. He heaved it for the game sealing touchdown. It was an amazing game and both teams left it all on the field.
Congratulations Danger Zone!
It was the last week of our Grant Park summer league with semi-finals and championship games to be played. Kelly S. quietly had one of the biggest days seen all season. He racked up touchdown after touchdown in the semi-final game as well as being the go-to on extra point attempts. Chris found Kelly on their first drive of the championship game for a quick TD against Roustabouts to even the score. Kelly was all over the field catching short and long throws. Kelly and Danger Zone capitalized on every opportunity to bring home the championship!
This week wrapped up the regular season and just like every other Sunday this summer it was boiling hot out. Danger Zone neglected to don their jerseys in order to stay cool out on the turf. This may have helped Jake and his teammates move just that much faster out there. In a tight game against Team GO! Jake found the open areas and took advantage of Chris' pinpoint accuracy to punch in a few scores. Jake came through for Danger Zone and helped propel them to the top of the leader board. They are the number one seed heading in to playoffs, which don't start until September 7th!
Katie S. took over at the quarterback position in the second half on opening day. She went a cool six for seven resulting in a touchdown on her first trip down the field. Her teammates did a great job finding the open spots and made sure to let her know when they did! Dangerzone found a rhythm early in the game playing tough defense and hauling in a few interceptions. They looked as good as ever and the season has just been begun!
