Fall Softcore/Midcore Co-ed Indoor Volleyball in SEPDX Thursday

Thursday night capped of an undefeated session for the Ballernesians. Newsflash right? (enter sarcasim)

Ahhh but it was an outcome that many would not have immediately expected, the results of the match had those of us in the stands, (family, friends, and other teams) witness what amounted to one of the greatest battles in Underdog Volleyball history. I mean this was the stuff legends like the movie Rocky were made.

Here you have what many considered to be, the underdog Quickie Sets, coming out of the gate swinging and stunning the top seed, handing them their first set loss of the season. Turns out Quickie Sets didn't get the memo of this was going to be a cake walk and swiftly/ decisively took game one of the match.

The champs, looked stunned and had to take a few moments to regroup, splash some water on their faces, and get ready to dig in on what was going to be a battle, no a war!

The second set started in similar fashion with Quickie sets jumping out to a quick lead. This time though Ballernesians had the answers. Back and fourth, back and fourth both teams went, long rallies, huge thunderous spikes, amazing net plays, bodies flying everywhere (the sounds of skin sliding on the court echoed throughout the building) and at the end of game two, all tied up one game a piece, we had two teams breathing heavy, water and sweat pouring from their bodies with neither one showing signs of wavering.

It came down to a pivotal game three where after a few back and forth serves, the Ballernesians caught their second wind and started to pull away. From great serves by the ladies, and thunderous spikes from Mathew and Jack, the Ballernesians capped the evening off with a stunning victory in three games to become this sessions Midcore champs.

Kudos to both teams for an amazing match, the Quickie Sets group put in an effort of a champ themselves, only to come up a bit short.

As for the Ballernesians, through hard work, awesome team play and thunderous hits, were what carried them from the start of the season all the way through to the end. Standing at the top, they got their with electric team play, awesome celebration chants, and epic smiles that earned them a spot at the top. Way to go team...no see if you can repeat.

Sarah Galea'i

Ballernesian

That loud sonic boom that you could hear throughout the complex and the city of Milwaukee, Oregon for that matter on Thursday evening was no doubt the serves that Sarah Galea'i was raining down on her opponent.

Maybe it was the spiking show that she and her teammates were putting on display that was reminiscent of the 4th of July Fireworks spectacle I saw this year. Either way, Sarah had an impressive run last night and ended up winning the 3rd game for her team with 5 straight bullets that she fired over to the opposing team.

Well done Sarah, way to bring the thunder, and way to represent Ballernesian!
