If you wouldn't have been watching all season, you would never have known that the the Softcore Championship game was one by a group of individuals who epitomize what being a team really means.
The fun loving group all season has stepped up to the challenge of this league and knocked down the adversity that opponents were throwing at them with such class and grace.
With Underdog nicknames given to players like Mark Mattison known as the Big Easy and such, this group shows up with their lunch pail mentality of time to go to work and take down all those who dare to stand in front of them.
Who could ever forget the awesome play from the ladies with sets, digs, and the all out effort from the likes of Hayley, Amanda, Chelse, and Kristine...after all, we know who really controls the flow of the game don't we ladies ;)
Last but certainly not to be left out was the never quit mentality the Doug has brought each and every game, all season long. Its an infectious attitude that helped his team dig down team during times of despair.
In the end, the team completed their epic journey this week by taking out the number one seed in the tournament in what was a convincing fashion, firmly establishing themselves on top of the mountain for this sessions.

Thursday night capped of an undefeated session for the Ballernesians. Newsflash right? (enter sarcasim)
Ahhh but it was an outcome that many would not have immediately expected, the results of the match had those of us in the stands, (family, friends, and other teams) witness what amounted to one of the greatest battles in Underdog Volleyball history. I mean this was the stuff legends like the movie Rocky were made.
Here you have what many considered to be, the underdog Quickie Sets, coming out of the gate swinging and stunning the top seed, handing them their first set loss of the season. Turns out Quickie Sets didn't get the memo of this was going to be a cake walk and swiftly/ decisively took game one of the match.
The champs, looked stunned and had to take a few moments to regroup, splash some water on their faces, and get ready to dig in on what was going to be a battle, no a war!
The second set started in similar fashion with Quickie sets jumping out to a quick lead. This time though Ballernesians had the answers. Back and fourth, back and fourth both teams went, long rallies, huge thunderous spikes, amazing net plays, bodies flying everywhere (the sounds of skin sliding on the court echoed throughout the building) and at the end of game two, all tied up one game a piece, we had two teams breathing heavy, water and sweat pouring from their bodies with neither one showing signs of wavering.
It came down to a pivotal game three where after a few back and forth serves, the Ballernesians caught their second wind and started to pull away. From great serves by the ladies, and thunderous spikes from Mathew and Jack, the Ballernesians capped the evening off with a stunning victory in three games to become this sessions Midcore champs.
Kudos to both teams for an amazing match, the Quickie Sets group put in an effort of a champ themselves, only to come up a bit short.
As for the Ballernesians, through hard work, awesome team play and thunderous hits, were what carried them from the start of the season all the way through to the end. Standing at the top, they got their with electric team play, awesome celebration chants, and epic smiles that earned them a spot at the top. Way to go team...no see if you can repeat.
