The Division 1 championship game lived up to the hype and then some at Irving Park on Sunday, pitting two teams who were eager to claim the championship belt, regardless of the soggy field conditions and threating storm clouds in the distance. This was Underdog fall ball at its finest...a bit wet and muddy, but nothing Yur's bar or Underhanded Compliments couldn't handle for a couple of hours.
Underhanded Compliments took an early 4-0 lead, showcasing their batting skills from top to bottom of the lineup. Stellar defensive plays by both teams kept the game close throughout the middle innings, with Yur's bar starting to sweat a bit entering the bottom of the 6th trailing by three runs. Their bats finally heated up, leading to a six run inning and a nail-biting 11-10 win in a fantastic game worthy of Underdog style championship softball
Jeff's Yur's Bar was set to match up against the Bunt for Red October Sunday afternoon, although the game was momentarily held up by some late arriving players. Although BRO was able to field a team, they were about to start out playing only two outfielders. Seeing this, Jeff voluntarily played catcher, allowing his opponents to field a full outfield until their other player showed up. This is the type of sportsmanship and friendly competitiveness we love at Underdog! Jeff went on to lead his team to victory in a tightly-contested game that featured 7 lead changes and many great defensive plays on both sides!
