It's Not Really Week 1 for Joel???
It's Not Really Week 1 for Joel???
De Foes
Wednesday Softcore first week started at Tubman last night, but Joel Thompson of De Foes obviously didn't realize it because he played like he's been playing continuously for weeks! What a way to start off the season and Joel could do no wrong. Except the damage he made on the court as De Foes came out the victors in two out of three sets over Net Gains III. This player is second to none in effort and extremely dangerous moves. Joel literally flies across court, often out of bounds, to make spectacular saves that are astounding to observe. His work at net was flawless and his precise setting ability is truly an asset to his mates. Joel, you made a huge first week impression on us and therefore, you're POTW!

Jeff Schmahl
Jeff Schmahl
Straight Shots
After a freak accident involving his big toe, Jeff Schmahl rejoined Straight Shots for Week 2 at Tubman Wednesday Softcore for some toe tapping greatness. Jeff doesn't appear to be affected at all by his recent surgery because he was as light as a feather from head to toe. Going toe to toe vs. DeFoes (nice rhyming, right?), Jeff was his usual self flying over net with thunderous kills, blocking defense that was incredible, and some sweet assists to his teammates. Straight Shots toed the line and came up with a 3-0 game sweep of DeFoes, and Jeff played a huge part in tip toeing around the court with some fantastic plays!

Ryan Geary
Ryan Geary
The Volley Lama
This week's POTW for Tubman Wednesday Softcore goes to Ryan Geary. This guy is a silent assassin. Ryan's not a man of many words, but he does his talking on the court by commanding the game with ferocious serves and some keen work at net. While his team Volley Lamas dropped the first two sets to Sportland, Ryan had a plan for the third set and that was to take matters into his own hands and proceed to fire away at the service line. The Lamas gained ground throughout the set with Ryan delivering some nifty ups and effective kills to come out with a 25-11 victory. Now, that's taking command of the game, Ryan - nice job!

Rebecca Franceschi
Rebecca Franceschi
Power Play!
This week's POTW at Tubman on Wednesday nights is a player who performs with nothing less than her all every week. Rebecca Franceschi brings the POWER week in and week out. You can almost see the defense cower when she delivers her rocket-speed service and crushing blows at net with her kill ability. Inspiring her Sportland teammates with her energy and force, Rebecca made sure that her team came out on top vs. Net Gains III in the tournament. Sportland won a nail-biter in the first set, 26-24, but lost a bit of focus in the second by losing 25-21. Rebecca shined the rest of the way and lead her team to a 25-22 victory in the third set to land them in the championship game next week. No doubt Rebecca will be bringing her tremendous skills for a great match up - can't wait to see it!

Crystal Haight
Crystal Haight
Crystal Haights It When She Loses
.....so she took matters into her hands on Wednesday night at Tubman in the Softcore tournament. Didn't matter what position she was playing, Crystal was absolutely all over the place and on point all night long. Her team, the Straight Shots, faced the Volley Lamas in the semifinal Softcore tournament and played a well-executed match where Crystal could shine her talents with tricky saves and assists and great ups and net work. Her deadly serves polished off a two-game win over the Lamas and propelled Straight Shots into the championship match vs. Sportland. Crystal again proved why she's MVP by putting up great defensive moves against a powerful Sportland assault of kills and volleys. She really can play any position with ease and made sure that there was no way Straight Shots wasn't leaving the gym without the USL champ wristbands! Great season and we Haight to see it end - go Crystal!!
