Summer Co-ed Flag Football at Lewis and Clark College Wednesdays

POTW: Breezy Balls Team
Breezy Balls
Summer flag football league is under way and the teams came out with a smile and good spirits, none more than the Breezy Balls team.
They took the field to play a veteran Back that Pass Up team. Early on in the game Back that Pass Up took a 26-0 lead. Many players and teams would hang their heads, but not Breezy Balls, they were all about good cheers and smiles. When it became 4th and gender and long, they continued to go for it with a positive out look.
Late in the game when they scored their 1st touchdown, it was as if there were serving margaritas with umbrellas and having a pool party....everyone got in on the celebration. Breezy Balls definitely displayed the true Underdog Sports League spirit and for that we give them the "team" of the week.

Player of the week
Player of the week
Indy team came together and came up with a name of Little Frickin' Rascals. With that name change came a new structure of playing ball led by Annie Hopfensperger.
She not only asked me to take a roll call for her team, but she lead her team by catching deep passes with the last one culminating in a 60 yard touchdown pass. She ended the game with 150 yards receiving and cheering on her team from the sidelines like a heckler at a comedy show.
She had a giant smile on her face, $10 coupon in hand and this week's player of the week.

The Godfather
The Godfather
Player of the week
"I'll make you an offer you can't refuse....." Those were the words of Michael Hayman of Breezy Balls on their 1st drive.
Unfortunately, his team didn't get the memo about that offer, but Michael displayed his skills on the field by making key catches in the game. One of them was an amazing one-handed grab with only one eye open. Everyone was so amazed from that catch, it was like he parting of the Red Sea, everyone just stood still.
Michael's voice was just coming back from being hoarse this past weekend. With the raspy voice and amazing plays, he reassured everyone that the godfather is still alive. Lets all make sure to give him respect, he is this week's player of the week.

Pesky Groundhog
Pesky Groundhog
Player of the week
Anyone who has ever seen the movie Caddyshack 1 or 2 knows how that pesky groundhog is....all over the place.
Lauren Carpenter (LC) was all over the place causing a ruckus for everyone on the field today. She led her team with 2 sacks and 1 interception on defense. As if that wasn't enough, she took the ball on offense as the quarterback and threw for 2 touchdowns and receiving for 1 additional touchdown.
I think she felt inspired by that groundhog as her teammates even came up with a new name for her. She is now known as L.C. aka "Lincoln Log". A great performance overall by the player of the week. Congratulations!

Meez-Beez can do it all
Player of the week
Meredith Miesbach can do everything including driving the bus. When she stepped on the field Wednesday, she was on a mission and saw nothing but red targets and she fell in the zone.
She played so well that her team named her "Meez-Beez". In the 1st half she was a decoy but when it mattered the most, on gender plays, she would take over making key grabs for 1st downs and keeping the drive alive. She ended the 1st scoring 1 touchdown.
In the 2nd half, she stepped up her game playing quarterback. She looked like she played in the CFL, looking off defenders and completing precision passes. She ended the game throwing for 2 touchdowns.
She did it all today, making her the player of the week.

Ninja Magic
Scott Potampa
Sack.....Interception....Deflected pass...Stop on 4th down. It was a one man show out there on defense for Scott Potampa from Back That Pass Up.
He played like Ninja Magic Wednesday night. He was all over the field. He lead his team grabbing a sack, 4 flag pulls including a great 4th down defensive stop. If that wasn't enough, he managed to pick off Boom Squad's quarterback on 3 occasions.
Scott raised the hair on everyone's back spine by creeping so close that you didn't see him until it was too late. A great game for him and a victory for his team. Congratulations to this week's player of the week.
