Lovely Lady Bumps
The Lovely Lady Bumps welcomed a brand new player to their brand new all ladies team who had something extra special about her. Catie Feldman HAS NEVER PLAYED VOLLEYBALL. Period, end of story, no indoor VB, no instruction, no coaching, nada. Except for a brief introduction to the game by her teammates on Wednesday at opening night of USL Softcore Sand VB at Eastmoreland. Catie admitted she was a little nervous about her abilities, but once she got going, she obviously caught the service bug, because she literally served every point OVERHAND. Just skipped over any introductory skills and went straight for the hard stuff! And it was extremely effective as Catie racked up some serious offense which helped the Lady Bumps take a 2-1 game victory over Sandfish. Her defense was incredible as well as Catie has no fear of getting in the sand to save everything that comes her way. Either she's a ringer, the 7th Wonder of the World, or just a competitive natural athlete - whatever she is we like Catie's style and enthusiasm. Welcome to VB and USL - the beginning of a long and sporty relationship!

Don't Touch That Net - It's Joan's!
Sandfish Has a Lock at Net with Joan Randall
The net area is hers and hers alone. Joan Randall of Sandfish may not be big in stature, but she's huge at taking charge at the net. So that means she's not gonna be spiking the ball at will. However, anything that's at a lower level is all Joan's. In a great match on Wednesday at Eastmoreland Courts vs. Sanders, Joan was on it at the net with really spectacular one-armed ups, which skimmed the net on the upswing and just landed perfectly on the Sanders' side. Her play sparked some continuous volleys that were exciting to behold and inspired her teammates to engage in an intense third set where they came close but dropped 22-20. Joan gave a big "WOW" effort and for that, we honor you with the USL POTW. Net's all yours, Joan!

Director of Fun - That's Aaron Katrena
Director of Fun - That's Aaron Katrena
Aaron Keeps the Jokes Coming While Winning
When the Sloppy Sets led by Aaron Katrena sink their feet into the sand, you know it's gonna be a fun time. We appoint you, Aaron, as the Director of Fun for Wednesday night sand VB at Eastmoreland. But fun isn't all Aaron has up his tank top, he's a barrel of power with relentless digging and always on his toes at net. He's still getting his jump serve under control, but when it's good, it's VERY GOOD. And always keeping his teammates and opponents cracking up over his way to bring a laugh at any given moment. In fact, we think this is his tactic for lost points on the opponents side - they're laughing too much to return the ball. The Sloppys dropped the first set to Lovely Lady Bumps, but that's when Aaron turned it on and the jokes kept coming which spurred the Sloppys to two consecutive wins in games 2 and 3. Sports is all about fun and Aaron uses that to his advantage - he's an all-star in that respect!

Nice Aces
Not to be outdone by lil' bro, Seiji Blume decided it was his turn to command the POTW honor from his younger sibling, Zac, a previous recipient. This amazing pool of power genes are really giving their best week in and week out for their team, Nice Aces. This week, Seiji took over the kingpin duties with some fancy footwork in both matches of a double header. In Game One vs. Spiketastic, Seiji was absolutely masterful in saves and at net in a convincing three set win. Keeping the momentum up in the second game of their doubleheader vs. A Bunch of Beaches, Seiji still had plenty of energy left by delivering accurate blocking against a barrage of kill attempts by the Beaches at the net and delivering a 2-1 game victory. Not only is Seiji a fantastic player, but according to Zac, a pretty awesome big brother. What more could you ask??? Congrats Seiji, on being YOU!

Ellen Fields' Stellar Performance Shines
There's no shame in Ellen Fields'' game. There's no end of energy and spunk either, 'cause once she digs her feet into the sand, she's committed until the last point is made. Leading the other Lovely Lady Bumps, who also have no shortage of determination to compete, Ellen kept the games close with her incredible service vs. their friends and arch rivals, The Volley Lamas. And while they dropped the match 3-0, the Lady Bumps and Ellen fought through some tough rallies with her tenacious work at net on defense. Her energy and ready smile puts everybody in a good mood which is the best argument for her achieving POTW!

Scott Plays It Cool, But He Knows How to Rule

Scott Meeker Leads a Gallant Effort in Spiketastic Season Ender
Scott Meeker of Spiketastic isn't one to go down without a good fight, spike, set or serve. And he performs them all in great style. As captain of Spiketastic, Scott can regularly be seen on USL volleyball courts both inside and out. This is a guy who obviously enjoys the game whether his feet are playing on hardwood or sand. But we see a little different Scott when he plays barefooted and has the ability to throw his body all over the place. In the Midcore playoffs on Wednesday night at Eastmoreland, Scott led the Spikesters to 3-0 game win vs. Volley Ringwald by his nifty digs and easy touch at the net. Moving up the bracket, Spiketastic met a formidable foe in Nice Aces, who launched an all out battle on offensive kills which proved to be Scott and company's demise in the playoffs. But Scott and Spiketastic don't waste time contemplating their losses and end of the season, they just turn their attention to going back inside to the hardwoods of another court to continue their VB passion. Thanks for being a great ambassador to the sport, Scott Meeker, and for coming out every season with your best effort!

Anglea Fowler Contorts Herself to Winning
No matter what Angela Fowler of the Nice Aces does for a living, we think she just might be a good candidate for an acrobatic gig with Cirque du Soleil. This woman can move herself like a rubber band. In their Midcore championship game vs. Bunch of Beaches, Nice Aces put Angela at net to defend and set. That's because they know she possesses a deft ability to handle anything that comes her way. In one play, Angela did a back bend and swing that was one seamless movement, keeping the ball in play in what surely would have been a miss had anyone else attempted the move. Her digs and assists were magical too and she was an effective setter for teammates Zac and Seiji. Angela proved a big factor in the Aces' championship victory with her amazing moves!
