Caressing a baby
Every kid dreams about playing in the Superbowl and making the game winning touchdown. On this opening night, John Stieber, from ManBearPigs imagined about catching the game winning touchdown pass in the Underdog Sports League opener.
John was nervous and filled with the jitterbugs coming into this game, but once the ball snapped, he felt right at home. He had a big game with a capital "B". He caught 5 passes, 3 of them for touchdowns. Man Punts had no answer for him. But his game breaking performance culminated when there was only a few seconds left on the clock and everyone ran for the end zone. ManBearPigs on offense and the quarterback chucks it in the air 50 yards. Everyone starred at the ball as it sailed through the air. Man punts tips it, another player tips it, then John comes down with it like he was caressing a baby.
John caught the game winning touchdown and it was as if confetti fell from the sky as ManBearPigs celebrated like never before. For his amazing game play, John ge0ts the Player of the Week award, congratulations.

Skallywags-Indy #1
On Thursday night, in not only her second Flag Football game with Underdog but her second Flag Football game ever, Camille Earle showed that it doesn't take experience to play Flag Football but HEART...oh, and there's one more thing, the desire to have some fun while you're at it.
In helping push the Skallywags into the win column Camille played hard nose pass-rush, hit the turf a few times to try to snag the tough catch (she eventually pulled one of those bad boys in for a biiiiig firstdown) and was out for a good time. Mission accomplished. Congrats Camille, you're the Thursday Night Flag Football League Underdog Player of the Week, nice job rook, keep up the good work!

Sweaty Yetis
It was Stephanie Seguin's birthday Thursday but when she arrived at Rob Strasser Memorial Field that night, she was the one bearing gifts.
Those "gifts" came in the form of some big plays on the field, a victory for her team, and frustration for her opposition.
In a shootout with the Man Punts, a close game which broke open with about a quarter of the game clock remaining, the Sweaty Yeti's got the W, with much thanks to Stephanie's stellar two-way play.
Seguin's defensive play was unforgivable throughout the game, most notably two key deflections. However, Stephanie made sure her offensive game was not to be overlooked as she put six on the board while the game score was still tight.
Congratulations Stephanie, you are the Underdog Thursday Night Player of the Week, this is no gift, you EARNED this one.

One more thing....HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Annie Hoffensperger
Muchas Smuchas
Team Muchas Smuchas played a back-to-back Double Header this Thursday night and the only moment oF rest for Annie Hoffensperger came on a Pass Inteference penalty in which Annie took a shot from a defender that put them both on the ground. When I say "moment" though, I meant a teenie tinie moment. Annie shot up and made her way back to her huddle and then proceeded to unleash her skillz (that's right skillz) all over the two teams MS played that night.
Whether it was throwing TD's or catching them, The two-season Underdog veteran didn't take a break from pointing points on the board. If I'm not mistaken I believe even she tossed in a pick six while on defense to sweeten the pot.
Tough play and great sportswomanship put Annie on the Thursday Night League Underdog Flag Football Player of the Week podium. Very well deserved. CONGRATS!!!

Skallywags-Indy #1
Even in back-to-back tough losses it was hard to keep Skallywag David Knospe from...um...skallywagging. Just because the opposition's giving you trouble doesn't mean you can't give some back.
Knospe played like a man possessed making tough grabs anywhere and everywhere on the field, as one ref put it, "that guy did everything."
Some teams fall apart when playing in the face of a point deficit but David had plenty of energy to go around and that kept the Skallywag Squad positive and fighting to final whistle.
David, you're a great player and a good sportsman and your efforts made you our Thursday Night League UNDERDOG Flag Football Player of the Week. Congratulations and keep it going.

Double Headers
Man Punts

Michael Smith
Man Punts
The Man Punts didn't get a second to breath out of the entire eighty minutes of game clock in their double header, first against the ever-improving ManBearPigs and then followed by a bout with the always solid Muchas Smuchas.
In the 8 o'clock match-up, the Man Punts were up by two points going into the last play of the game which actually resulted in a touchdown for the ManBearPigs giving them the lead with no time remaining.
A little bummed but not deterred, Man Punts QB and Captain Mikey Smith welcomed the opportunity for redemption as the Man Punts took the field for their second game against the Muchas Smuchas squad but this game too would come down to the final play.
Both teams exchanged the lead multiple times throughout the game and while the Muchas Smuchas are a team with big-time, big play capability, Smith neutralized any momentum the Smuchas may have gained by connecting with his own offensive weapons such as clutch Man Punts receiver PNK and by crafting scoring drives that kept the Man Punts ahead or barely behind. If Smith wasn't in the game he could be heard cracking a few jokes here and there but always keeping his teammates alert and focused on the task at hand.
Even with key stops by the Man Punts defense, the Muchas Smuchas put together a scoring drive with just under two minutes left to play. Before the Smuchas TD, Man Punts had the lead 35-28. The "do or die" Smuchas wanted to shut the game down and decided to line up for the 2-point conversion forgoing the option to tie. It was a gutsy move that paid off big and the Muchas Smuchas took the lead by a single point with less than two minutes to play.
Smith took the field knowing that whichever team had the ball last would most likely be the victor. Mikey knew he had to score but he had to chew up enough clock to keep from giving his opponent one last chance at the endzone.
With just under thirty seconds to play, Man Punts scored the go ahead TD but couldn't convert on the extra point try. The Smuchas would get close to the goal line but Smith and his Man Punts locked down the endzone and slammed the steel curtain shut on a 41-36 victory.
Mikey, you're a great player, a great teammate, a formidable opponent and a true sportsman which makes your our Thursday Night League UNDERDOG Player of the Week. Congrats and save some room for playoffs.

Sweaty Yetis
If you don't know Matt Orenchuk by name or can't picture his face, maybe this will help, he's the speedy mofo on the Sweaty Yeti's squad you can't keep out of the end zone. You know, that flash of pale yellow you see right before the referee raises his arms to signal a touchdown. Yeah, that guy.
You're not going to see Matt boast, brag, bark, or moan. Whether he makes a play or not he silently makes his way back to the huddle and gets ready for the next one. A referee once noted, "the only way that guy (Matt) let's you know he doesn't like your calls is with his eyes. He'll only ask questions to better understand the game, listen to your answers, and then goes right on about his business."
What makes Matt a great player are the same qualities that make him a great captain. Oh, and the same qualities that helps teams win championships. He plays hard, he has fun, he gets his team involved and he isn't stingy with his praise towards his teammates. In many games where Matt's performance was second to none he always gave the credit to his other teammates or his team as a whole.
Congrats to Matt Orenchuk, our UNDERDOG THURSDAY NIGHT PLAYER OF THE WEEK AND CAPTAIN OF THE CHAMPION SWEATY YETI'S!!!
