Coming into the finals, both Set Issues and The Sandy Vs were ready for a showdown. Both teams have strong skills, and The Sandy Vs were coming off a late season surge and ready to finish it off. However, Set Issues weren’t going to go down easily. In the first set, both teams had good flow, setting themselves up well at the net. They stayed even until 7s, and then 13s. Then, Set Issues started pulling away, keeping their game steady and taking advantage of a few mis-hits from the Sandy Vs. That earned them their first win, 21-16. In the second set, the teams again stayed even through 6s, 8s, 10s, and then the Sandy Vs started getting in their groove. Set Issues showcased their skills at the net and solid passes, but The Sandy Vs came back with big hits by Cameron, and great serves by Jack. The Vs pulled the second set out to even the score to 1-1. In the third and final set, the two teams put it all on the line and played their games. Patrick brought the enthusiasm for the Sandy Vs, assisted with great passes from Ashley and big saves by Cristie. However, Set Issues kept playing their consistent game with Andrew’s tricky tips and Sam’s great serves. Their consistent skills and great team chemistry brought them the extra distance and they won the third set 21-12. Congrats Set Issues, our Softcore Champions!

The Midcore Finals found Fear the Tape facing off with Hit ‘em Up. Both teams came off hard fought Semifinal games in the hot sun, so they were well past warmed up. Fear the Tape took an early lead in the first set at 5-1 after two sand-grazing digs by Shannon. A couple missed hits by Fear the Tape brought the game to 10s, and then Hit ‘em Up continued on their scoring streak to bring them ahead 17-11. Hit ‘em Up had some great, deep serves that proved too hard to return and they won the first set 21-12. The second set started off with a huge spike by Robert to set the tone. In the very next point, Hit ‘em Up responded with one of their own from Jeff. The two teams played even to 8s with a succession of perfect passes, spikes, and then returns back. Fear the Tape showed their skills with a huge block and then running save on the same ball from Scott, and perfect sets from Angela. However, Hit ‘em Up responded with Ben's presence at the net, Aubrey's powerful hits from the back line, and Meghan. They continued to use their communication and solid fundamentals to avoid mistakes and bring the score to point-12. On game point, Aubrey was going to owe the whole court a beer if she missed her serve, but it was perfect! Hit ‘em Up won the second set 21-18 to become our Midcore Champions!
