Taking it down to a last chance third set with Indy Team #27, Crampon Spikes won a nail-biter by an extremely narrow margin of four total points overall in the Softcore 2 Championship at SE PDX Thursday Night League. All three sets were within four points and the game was an exciting and fierce battle to watch between closely matched teams. Led by Joe Fox, who acted as coach and communicator, Crampon Spikes worked their way through some intense volleys with great defense and ball setting. Kudos as well to Indy Team #27 for bringing their A game to the championship (Josh had a great night!), only to fall slightly short of the victory. Congratulations to both teams for a fun and competitive season and providing some terrific athleticism all summer!

After splitting the first two sets with Pineapple Pandemonium, Reception Error broke away in the third set with a win in the SE PDX Thursday Night Softcore 1 Championship. After claiming the first set, Reception Error (RE) and Pineapple Pandemonium (PP) played a back-and-forth second set with PP coming out on top by a score of 21-19, led by some fantastic plays by Justin and Olivia. (Thanks by the way to PP for bringing an official scorekeeper to keep teams abreast of the current score along the way!). As darkness was setting in, the third match started evenly, but RE gained ground halfway through and cruised to a 21-14 victory. Corinne's standout play provided an edge for RE -- kudos for leading RE to the winner wristbands and congrats to the entire team as Softcore 1 Champions!

Not only does How I Set Your Mother (HISYM) have one fabulous team name, they capped off an undefeated season with first place in the Midcore division at SE PDX Thursday night league. HISYM defeated Sand Sets in a well-executed championship game with a steady pace and cohesive plan of attack. HISYM players Ben, Megan, Aubrey and Jeff showed us a textbook game plan for victory with some incredible ball setting, service and precise teamwork. Sand Sets was a notable opponent who hung with HISYM throughout the two sets for some exciting and challenging volleys, and battled honorably with only three players in two close matches (21-16, 21-17). But in the end, HISYM's collaborative effort was too much to overcome and they claimed the 2014 SE PDX Thursday night Midcore Champs. Congratulations to both teams and we'll look for a rematch next year!
