As the dust settled on another kickball season, Winners, Losers and Boozers were the champions of the Monday/Wednesday Montavilla League. Things were not easy though. They played a hotly contested 10 inning game against the #1 seeded Rick Newberry and the Wolfpack, winning on a homerun in the top of the 10th to advance to the championship game where Ro-Sham-Bo, fresh off a beatdown of the Babes was waiting for them. The championship game started off all Ro-Sham as they scored the first two runs of the game and held a 4-2 lead into the 5th. Winners/Losers powered ahead 5-4 behind fearless base running and clutch kicking. Winners/Losers also clamped down on defense, shutting down a potent Ro-Sham attack. Winners/Losers scored an insurance run in the bottom of the 6th and held on in the 7th for the championship win.
Great job, great playoffs and we'll see you all in the spring....unless of course you've got the guts to play winter kickball.
Winners, Losers and Boozer really played a total team game to win the championship. Every player on the team contributed to this win. Just a phenominal run for Winners/Losers.
Trying to pick a player of the week after witnessing one of the greatest kickball games ever would be near impossible. The match between Winners Losers and Boozers and Rick Newberry and the Wolfpack was one for the ages. It took 10 innings to sort this one out with Winner Losers and Boozers coming out on top. The game was close the entire time. Each time Winner/Losers would forge ahead by a couple runs, Rick Newberry would storm back to tie it. The score stood at 5-4 in the bottom of the seventh and Rick Newberry was down to thier final out. A well placed bunt, aggresive base running and an awesome slide later we were tied at 6's. The eigth and ninth innings passed with no scoring until Neal Almasri blasted a home run in the top of the tenth to deep center to give Winners/Losers the lead at 6-5. Winners/Losers locked down on defense in the bottom of the 10th and put themselves in the championship game. Holy Cow, what a game!
Winners, Losers and Boozers came to play Monday night. A potent lineup with no gaps to speak of put 22 runs on the board, and was backed up by a spectacular defensive showing. Extra POTW honors to the ladies of Boozers' for doing away with the bunts after the score got out of hand and coming up with some monster hits. All around great effort, great sportsmanship, great game.
